Richardson, Texas – Following the opening weekend of West Division play for the Angelo State softball team, freshman pitcher
Raegan Sucher has been named the Lone Star Conference's Freshman of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon.
Sucher, a Highland Village, Texas product, threw a perfect 3.1 innings in relief across three appearances this past weekend.
The Civil Engineering major threw the final two innings in the weekend opener against Western New Mexico, striking out one Mustang and combining with
Cheyenne Floyd for the shutout in the 6-0 win.
She returned to the circle in the doubleheader finale against Western New Mexico, recording the final out and stranding two runners in scoring position, which kept the score at 5-1; the Rambelles would then score five runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the comeback, 6-5 walk-off win.
The win is the first of her collegiate career.
Sucher threw a perfect fifth inning in the Rambelles' 10-1, five-inning run-rule win.
Sucher owns a 1.31 ERA in 10.2 innings of work inside the circle. She has combined for three shutouts this season and has held opposing batters to a .220 batting average.
This is Sucher's first-ever conference weekly honor and the first freshman of the week honor for the Rambelles. She is the fourth weekly award winner, joining
Laylonna Applin,
Cheyenne Floyd, and
Tatiana Trotter.
The Rambelles are 26-4 on the season and 17-3 in LSC play. They kick off a ten-game road trip this weekend, taking on No. 3 West Texas A&M and Midwestern State.
