No. 7 Rambelles Host Sul Ross State, UT Permian Basin

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team is home this weekend as they welcome Sul Ross State and UT Permian Basin into San Angelo. The Rambelles and the Lobos play on Friday at 5 p.m., while Sunday's doubleheader against the Falcons begins at 1 p.m.

Friday's doubleheader will also be Military Appreciation Day at Mayer Softball Field. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles took three out of four games in their home-and-home series against Lubbock Christian. The Rambelles took game one 3-2 in Lubbock before dropping game two 5-1. The Rambelles swept the home doubleheader with 7-3 and 4-1 decisions. 

RAMBELLES RANKED NO. 7
The Rambelles are ranked seventh in the latest version of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, marking their third consecutive week in the seventh spot. The Rambelles are in the nation's top ten for the first time since the 2022 season and were in the top five for the first time since the beginning of the 2021 season. 

GUNTHER NAMED LSC HITTER OF THE WEEK
Senior third baseman Averie Gunther was named the LSC Hitter of the Week for her performances at the plate against Lubbock Christian. She went 6-for-10 from the plate, hitting her first two home runs in Sunday's doubleheader. She slugged 1.200 at the plate and has hit .500 since the start of West Division play, recording 20 hits in her past 40 at bats. 

FLOYD RECORDS
Senior pitcher Cheyenne Floyd continues to put her name all over the career record book at Angelo State. The senior is tied for second in program history in career ERA (1.98) and is first in opponent batting average (.200). Her 406 strikeouts for the Blue and Gold are second all-time, and her 46 wins are tenth all-time. 

SCOTT PASSES 1K CAREER WINS
Head coach Travis Scott won his 1,000th career game on Friday, March 28th, against UT Permian Basin. He is the first coach to win all 1,000 games in the Lone Star Conference. He won his first 101 games at Southeastern Oklahoma before winning the following 904 wins at the helm of the Rambelles softball program.

  • Angelo State is 33-9 on the season and 24-8 in conference play; the Rambelles are 18-1 at home this season. 
  • The Rambelles hit .297 as a team with a .487 slugging and a .403 on-base percentage. The Rambelles average 5.7 runs per game.

  • Cheyenne Floyd is 18-5 with a save and a 1.64 ERA; she has 125 strikeouts in 115.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .168 against Floyd this season. 
  • Floyd is fifth in the country with 18 wins this season.
  • Amelia Hatthorn is 10-2 on the season with a 2.65 ERA.

  • Sul Ross State is 10-31 on the season and 7-25 in LSC play; they are 1-13 on the road this season, with the lone win coming on March 23rd at Western New Mexico in an 8-7 game. 
  • The Lobos are hitting .236 as a team, with a .296 slugging percentage and a .310 on-base percentage. They average 2.8 runs per game.
  • Tori Owens leads the team with a .287 batting average and 17 runs driven in.  
  • Adriana Hernandez and Cira Avila have each homered twice this season.

  • UT Permian Basin is 8-34 on the season and 3-29 in LSC play. In last week's home-and-home series against Sul Ross, the Falcons won their home games against the Lobos.
