SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State cross country teams will kick off their 2025 campaign at the Texas Tech Open, held at the LCU Cross Country Course in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 12.
The men's 8K race will begin at 8:15 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 8:50 a.m. This marks the fourth consecutive season the Rams and Rambelles will compete at the event.
RAMS
- The Rams closed out the 2024 season with an 11th-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships, posting a team time of 2:20:51.
- At last year's Texas Tech Open, the Rams placed 10th overall with a time of 2:25:35.
- Leading the returners is junior Austin Souther, a mechanical engineering major from Alvord, Texas, who was recently named Angelo State's Male Runner to Watch by the LSC.
- The Rams return six runners from last year's squad and welcome six newcomers, bringing the roster to 12 athletes for the 2025 season.
RAMBELLES
- The Rambelles enter the 2025 season after finishing 9th at the 2024 LSC Championships, recording a team time of 2:00:41.
- In last year's Texas Tech Open, the Rambelles earned a strong 6th-place finish, clocking in at 2:08:13.
- The women's squad features seven runners, led by Chasity Benson, a standout biology major from Roby, Texas. Benson was named the LSC Female Runner to Watch for ASU after a breakout 2024 season in which she earned LSC Freshman Runner of the Week honors.
