Rams Drop Contest to Comets

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team encountered a slow second half in their game against UT Dallas this evening as the Comets left the Junell Center/Stephens Arena with a 65-53 win over the Rams.

The Rams entered the halftime break with a six-point lead after shooting 51.9 percent in the opening 20 minutes. After the break, however, the Rams only made nine of their 32 field goal attempts in the second half.

The turning point of the game saw the Comets rip off a 22-1 scoring run, including four consecutive trips down the court that ended with made three-pointers.

Jhordan Ryan turned in his third consecutive double-double with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting and 19 rebounds. His 19 rebounds are the second-most in a single game in the conference this season, and tie for the fifth-most rebounds in a single game in program history.

It is the seventh time a Ram has grabbed 19 rebounds in a contest and the first time since Andres Ibarguen did so in March 2020.

Ryan has averaged 37.3 minutes per game since being inserted into the starting lineup, scoring 15.7 points and grabbing 13.7 rebounds. In the game, the Rams out-rebounded the Comets 41-30.

Jordan Crawford stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, five rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals. His seven steals are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, a mark achieved five times before, most recently by Kevon Godwin in December 2023.

Jesaiah McWright added nine points, while Zyon Little had six points and five rebounds.

The Rams are 12-8 on the season and 3-6 in conference play. They are back in action next Wednesday to face Texas A&M-Kingsville.
