SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Angelo State women's basketball team overcame a cold shooting night to edge Texas A&M-Kingsville 48-46 on Wednesday at the Junell Center–Stephens Arena during the Back to School Bash.
With the win, the Rambelles improved to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
Angelo State shot 28.6% from the field, including 23.1% from 3-point range, and went 60% from the free-throw line. Texas A&M-Kingsville shot 32.7% overall and 25% from beyond the arc. Despite being out-rebounded 46-34, the Rambelles forced 22 Javelina turnovers and converted them into 18 points.
Majik Esquivel led all scorers with 15 points, knocking down three 3-pointers.
Stevi Lockhart added 12 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Taylor Grona finished with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block to go along with five points.
Keniah Williams grabbed seven rebounds, while
Landry Morrow added five rebounds and three steals.
Kenna Wood and
Briley Merket rounded out the scoring for Angelo State.
The Rambelles will return to action on the road Saturday, Jan. 24, for a rematch against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
