Albuquerque, N.M. – The Angelo State track and field teams tallied four provisional marks in day one of competition at the New Mexico Team Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
On the women's side, thrower
Marie Schuler threw a provisional mark in the weight throw with a throw of 17.64m (57'-10.5"). Schuler's throw is the furthest in the LSC this season and the lone provisional mark.
For the Rams,
William Opare improved on his season-best in the 200 meters, running 21.05 seconds. Opare's time is the fastest in the LSC and third-fastest in the country.
Bautista Diamante and
Taylor Briggs each collected provisionals in the 200m dash with times of 21.47 and 21.50, respectively. Their times are second- and third-fastest in the conference, only behind Opare's time.
Karl Patanpatan ran a 48.00 in the 400m dash, finishing fourth overall in the event and first among Division II runners.
He is the fourth ASU runner to notch a provisional time in the event and ties the same time his brother Francis ran last meet at the Corky Classic in the event.
The Rambelles and Rams close out their weekend tomorrow in Albuquerque.
