SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's tennis team started the season off strong as they defeated Weatherford College, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the ASU Tennis Complex. 
 
The Rambelles start the season 1-0. 
 
Angelo State took the doubles point over Weatherford College with wins on all three courts. The new pairing of Benedetta Raggiotti and Anna Waché defeated Maria Ternera and Kshirin Wakalkar 6-0. The Freshman pairing of Sasa Felixova and Anastasiia Melinkova clinched the first point of the year for the Rambelles, defeating Amanda Skeltina and Sara Tublen, 6-1. The other freshman pairing of Jade Bestagno and Danaiya Amangazhiyeva defeated Valeria Cabrera and Rosemary Pena, 6-2, to claim all three doubles matches. 
 
Sasa Felixova recorded the first point for the Rambelles in singles play. Felixova defeated Sara Tublen 6-0 in straight sets to give the Rambelles a 2-0 lead.
 
One of the two returners on the team, Raggiotti defeated Rosemary Pena 6-0 in straight sets to give the Rambelles an, 3-0 lead. 
 
Melnikova defeated Amanda Skeltina 6-2, 6-1 to give the Rambelles a 4-0 lead and their first victory of the year.
 
Danaiya Amangazhiyeva defeated Valeria Cabrera 6-1, 6-0 to give the Rambelles a 5-0 lead with two matches remaining. 
 
Anna Waché defeated Maria Ternera 6-3, 6-3 to give Rambelles a 6-0 advantage with one match remaining. 
Jade Bestagno would fall short in a three-set thriller to Kshirin Wakalkar 5-7, 6-2, 5-10 to give Weatherford College their only point of the contest. 
 
The Rambelles return to action on February 7th when they take on Texas Wesleyan on the road, with the first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
