SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball suffered its first setback of the 2026 calendar year on Sunday afternoon inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, falling to defending South Central regional champions DBU 86-50.
The Rams kept it close in the opening stages of the game, holding a 10-9 lead over the Patriots through the game's first seven minutes. However, DBU would go on a 26-9 run in the rest of the first half to enter the intermission with a 35-19 lead.
The Patriots shot 47.6 percent from the field and 40 percent from three–point range, and their defense forced the Rams into 22 turnovers.
The Rams shot 29.2 percent from the field and did not make a three-pointer in 13 attempts.
Jaqai Murray led the Rams with 16 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field and 8-for-10 shooting from the free-throw line. He grabbed nine rebounds, blocked a pair of shots, and nabbed three steals.
Jesaiah McWright scored nine points and assisted twice, and
Zyon Little scored seven points while leading the Rams with nine rebounds.
Jhordan Ryan scored six points while securing six rebounds and three steals.
Kailon Nicholls added five points, and
Darius Brady tallied a new career-best with four points, all from the free-throw line.
The Rams are 11-5 on the season and 2-3 in LSC play. They are on the road this weekend to face Cameron and Oklahoma Christian.
