AUSTIN, Texas – The Angelo State University women's basketball team took control from the opening tip and never trailed Thursday evening, earning a 73-57 victory over St. Edward's University at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
With the win, the Rambelles extended their winning streak to seven games and improved to 12-9 overall and 10-5 in Lone Star Conference play. ASU has now won nine of its last 10 contests.
Angelo State shot 55.6 percent from the field, including 35 percent from 3-point range, and made all six of its free-throw attempts. The Rambelles were outrebounded 28-26 but forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 23 points.
Majik Esquivel led all scorers with 29 points, knocking down five 3-pointers. The performance marked her highest scoring output since her career-high 38-point effort against Oklahoma Christian on Jan. 10. The sophomore from Lubbock added three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Kenna Wood followed with a career-high 18 points, scoring primarily in the paint while making all four of her free throws.
Taylor Grona and
Landry Morrow combined for 17 points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Tristin Keller added five points, while
Stevi Lockhart and
Halle Hughes scored two apiece to round out the ASU scoring.
Angelo State continues its road trip Saturday, traveling to San Antonio to face St. Mary's University at the Bill Greehey Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
