SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball program utilized strong defense to overcome a below-average shooting day and defeat St. Mary's 59-53 on Valentine's Day at Bill Greehey Arena.
With the win, the Rambelles improved to 13-9 overall and 11-5 in Lone Star Conference play. ASU extended its winning streak to eight games and has now won 10 of its last 11.
Angelo State shot 35.5 percent from the field, including 34.5 percent from 3-point range, while converting all five free-throw attempts. The Rambelles were outrebounded 35-32 but forced 23 turnovers and turned them into 19 points.
Landry Morrow led the way with 18 points while adding eight rebounds and two assists.
Stevi Lockhart followed with 15 points, her highest total since joining the program, and contributed three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Majik Esquivel added 14 points and four rebounds.
Briley Merket scored six points, while
Kenna Wood and
Taylor Grona chipped in three apiece.
Angelo State returns home Thursday, Feb. 19, to host Lubbock Christian University at the Junell Center–Stephens Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
