SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to nine games Thursday night with a 65-58 victory over No. 23 Lubbock Christian University on Fiesta Night at the Junell Center–Stephens Arena.
With the win, the Rambelles improved to 14-9 overall and 12-5 in Lone Star Conference play. ASU has now won 11 of its last 12 contests.
Angelo State found success inside, outscoring the Lady Chaps 28-24 in the paint. The Rambelles shot 39.7 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from 3-point range. ASU was outrebounded 39-32 but forced 16 turnovers and converted them into 12 points.
Majik Esquivel led all scorers with 24 points, doing much of her damage at the rim, while adding four rebounds.
Landry Morrow followed with 16 points, including two 3-pointers, and recorded a team-high three steals.
Taylor Grona added 12 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Kenna Wood chipped in eight points, while
Tristin Keller and
Stevi Lockhart added three and two points, respectively.
Angelo State will wrap up its home schedule Saturday, Feb. 21, when it hosts Midwestern State. The Rambelles will honor its four seniors prior to the 1 p.m. tipoff at the Junell Center–Stephens Arena.
