SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 11 Angelo State University baseball team erased a five-run deficit Sunday, defeating Oklahoma Christian 9-8 to secure the four-game series at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams won the series 3-1 and improved to 10-4 overall. The Eagles dropped to 4-10.
Angelo State took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning when
Payton Bush scored on a wild pitch and
Hunter Holt added a sacrifice bunt.
Oklahoma Christian answered with a three-run home run in the third to take the lead. Bush tied the game later in the inning with an RBI single to left field.
The Eagles capitalized on defensive miscues in the fourth, loading the bases and scoring four runs on two hits to build an 8-3 advantage. They added another run in the sixth on a throwing error.
The Rams began their comeback in the seventh. Holt delivered a two-run single, and
Austin Beck followed with a two-run single up the middle to cut the deficit to one.
In the eighth, Bush drew a leadoff walk before
Tate Greene hit a two-run home run over the left-field wall to give Angelo State its first lead since the second inning.
Chance Douglas closed out the game, pitching three scoreless innings in relief. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out six to earn his first win with the Rams.
Angelo State returns to action next weekend with a four-game road series in San Antonio against St. Mary's beginning Friday, Feb. 27.
