Patel Earns 200th Career Win as Rams Down Buffs in Overtime

Canyon, Texas – Angelo State men's basketball Head Coach Vinay Patel earned his 200th career win on Thursday evening as the Rams kicked off its final week of the season in style, defeating rivals West Texas A&M 76-68 in overtime inside the First United Bank Center.

Patel, whose coaching career began as a graduate assistant at West Texas A&M 20 years ago, accomplishes this milestone in the arena where his coaching journey began.

Patel's 200 wins come in 338 total games coached, good enough for a .592 career winning percentage. He holds a 79-43 record as head coach of the Rams over four seasons, for a .648 winning percentage.

The Rams shot 44.2 percent from the field, and despite making only three of 15 from deep, they made up for it by making a season-high 27 free throws, nine of which came in overtime to ice the game.

Defensively, the Rams held WT to 35.6 percent shooting, and in overtime, the Buffs converted only two of 11 shots.

The Rams also out-rebounded the Buffs 43-36.

Amarillo native Ashraf Barsham recorded his first double-double for Angelo State with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 6-for-10 from the field and made seven of his eight free-throw attempts. He also led the Rams with two assists and two steals while also blocking a shot.

Jordan Crawford scored 15 points, also making seven free throws, while grabbing seven rebounds, blocking a pair of shots, and grabbing two steals. Six of his 15 points came in overtime.

Quadir Pettaway scored 12 points in 33 minutes off the bench. The junior guard was responsible for all three of the Rams' made three-pointers.

Jhordan Ryan and Davon Scott scored seven points apiece, and five of Scott's seven points came in the extra period. Ryan recorded eight rebounds as he and Scott made five free throws each.

Jesaiah McWright scored six points, and Zyon Little had four points and ten rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

The Rams are 17-13 and close out the season on Saturday against No. 12 Eastern New Mexico, who are coming off a blowout win against UT Permian Basin this evening.
