Albuquerque, N.M. – The Angelo State track and field teams wrapped up day one of the Lone Star Conference championships, which was highlighted by four medals won across three different events.
Kamryn Williams and
Marie Schuler finished first and second in the weight throw with marks of 60-9.25 (18.52m) and 59-4.25 (18.09m). Both throwers improved on previously-set provisional marks.
In the pole vault,
Baylor Wright picked up a silver medal with a mark of 3.52 meters.
Kinlee Lawlis and
Shackelia Green recorded provisionals in the 200m dash prelims with times of 24.28 and 24.45 seconds, respectively, as the pair advanced to tomorrow's finals.
Dayvon Williams claimed a silver medal in the men's high jump with a jump of 6-5 (1.96 meters).
In the men's heptathlon,
Travis Matthews leads the field with 2,830 points, winning the shot put and finishing second in the 60m dash and the long jump.
Jonathan Wright finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.81 meters, a provisional mark.
Four Rams –
Lamont Reed (21.07 seconds),
William Opare (21.09 seconds),
Bautista Diamante (21.42 seconds), and
Francis Patanpatan (21.44 seconds) – will make up tomorrow's 200m dash final.
The quartet ran provisional times, with Reed and Patanpatan running season-best times.
The Rams tallied three provisionals in the 400m prelims courtesy of
Rami Balti (46.79),
William Opare (46.80), and
Jahleel Armstrong (47.59). Balti and Opare finished top two in the prelims, and Armstrong improved upon his provisional mark, which he tallied last meet at the Jarvis Scott Open.
The Rambelles and Rams close out the conference championship meet tomorrow.
