SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team controlled much of the contest against Western New Mexico on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, leading for the entire second half as the Rams secured a 63-52 win over the Mustangs.
The Rams held WNMU to a season-low 52 points, ten points fewer than its next-lowest scoring game.
The Mustangs, who are receiving votes in the NABC Division II Poll, also shot a season-worst 30 percent from the field.
The Rams shot 40 percent from the field in an otherwise evenly-matched contest that saw each team grab 43 rebounds and commit 16 turnovers.
The tightly contested opening minutes saw the lead switch hands three times before the Rams grabbed it with 6:57 left in the first half and held on for the remainder of the contest.
Three Rams –
Jhordan Ryan,
Zyon Little, and
Jabbari Barry – scored 14 points apiece.
Ryan only missed one shot from the field in seven attempts, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and three steals.
Little secured seven rebounds, and Barry was responsible for all three of the Rams' made three-pointers.
Quadir Pettaway and
Jesaiah McWright scored eight points each – all eight of McWright's points came from the free-throw line.
Jordan Crawford and
Ashraf Barsham nabbed six rebounds apiece, and Crawford led the Rams with a trio of assists.
The Rams improve to 14-10 on the season and 5-8 in conference play; they close their weekend on Saturday against Sul Ross, who are coming off a loss to UT Permian Basin this evening in Odessa.
