Virginia Beach, Va. – The Angelo State track and field teams completed their first day of competition at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Virginia Beach.
Kamryn Williams, Angelo State's lone field athlete competing this weekend, finished 15
th overall with a throw of 57-6.5 (17.54 meters).
On the track,
William Opare advanced to tomorrow's finals in the 200m and 400m dashes as the freshman from Ghana finished first in each event.
In the 400 meters, he crossed the line with a mark of 45.68 seconds, the fastest mark in Division II this season and the second-fastest mark ever in Division II.
Approximately an hour later, Opare ran a 20.78 in the 200m dash, which is also the fastest in the country this season.
Rami Balti joined Opare in the 400m finals tomorrow, finishing with a time of 46.86 as he ended the preliminaries in seventh.
Lamont Reed also ran in the 200m prelims, finishing 13
th after clocking a time of 21.36.
The Rambelles and Rams wrap up competition tomorrow. The men's 400m dash will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the men's 200m dash at 4:45 p.m. and the 4x400m relays, which begin at 5:45 p.m.
