OKLAHOMA CITY – The Angelo State softball team split its doubleheader against the nation's 12
th-ranked team, Oklahoma Christian, on Saturday evening, dropping game one 9-2 in game one before making a comeback to win game two 5-4.
The Rambelles' offense struggled against OC ace Jill Dickson, one of the best pitchers in the country, as she held the Rambelles to two runs (one earned) and three hits in game one.
Ashleigh Dendas' solo home run in the fourth inning, and an Eagles error in the same inning, saw the Rambelles produce their only two runs in the opening game.
The hosts struck for three runs in the first and five runs in the sixth to claim the game one win.
The Eagles opened up a 4-0 lead after four innings in game two.
The Rambelles pushed three runs across in the fifth inning, with a two-out rally sparked by a
Kamryn Loeffler walk before
Penelope Hurtado's home run scored the first two runs. Back-to-back doubles by
Kylie Forney and
Karli Manney scored Forney to make the scoreline 4-3.
The Rambelles loaded the bases to begin the sixth inning, taking the lead on a squeeze bunt and an Eagle error, which scored two runs to make it 5-4.
Addy Ewing started game two in the circle, throwing 3.1 innings before making way for
Maddison Ruiz, who threw 3.2 shutout innings in relief as she held the Eagles' lineup at bay, allowing the Rambelles to make the comeback.
Ruiz allowed five hits and two walks while striking out two batters as she picked up her sixth win this season.
The Rambelles are 25-6 overall and 14-2 in LSC play. They are back home next weekend to host UT Dallas on Friday.
