No. 13 Rams Faulter Late in Series Finale Against UT Dallas

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 13 Angelo State University baseball team battled windy conditions but ultimately fell to UT Dallas 5-1 on Sunday at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

With the loss, the Rams dropped the four-game series and fell to 17-9 overall. Angelo State has now lost five of its last six games.

UT Dallas struck first in the opening inning, stringing together three singles and a walk — all with two outs — to jump ahead 2-0.

After the Comets threatened again, the Rams turned to the bullpen, where David Dressendorfer stabilized the game and kept UT Dallas off the scoreboard for several innings.

The Rams cut the deficit in half in the fourth. Chase Pendley singled with one out, stole second and later third base on a walk drawn by Austin Beck. Tate Greene then hit a ground ball to the left side that brought Pendley home.

Dressendorfer continued to keep the Rams within striking distance, retiring 13 consecutive batters during one stretch. He finished with six innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three.

UT Dallas broke the game open in the eighth as strong winds contributed to several defensive miscues. The Comets scored three runs in the inning, bringing the game to its final score as ASU was unable to mount another rally in the final innings.

The Rams are back in action on Friday, Mar. 20 when they travel to Laredo to begin a four-game series against Texas A&M International.
