LAREDO, Texas — The Angelo State University baseball team dropped a back-and-forth series finale to Texas A&M International by a final score of 8-6 on Sunday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field.
With the loss, the Rams fell to 20-10 overall and 13-2 on the road.
For the third time in the series, the Dustdevils struck first, using a two-out RBI single in the first inning against starter
David Dressendorfer. They added another two-out RBI single in the second to take a 2-0 lead.
Dressendorfer worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk before exiting with the bases loaded in the third.
Angelo State answered in the top of the third.
Gamaliel Jones reached on a bunt and advanced to second on a throwing error before
Blake Wilhoite delivered an RBI double to right-center field.
Texas A&M International extended its lead with a four-run third inning, using four singles and two hit batters — all with two outs — to build a 6-2 advantage.
Tate Greene brought the Rams back into the game in the fifth, hitting a two-out, three-run home run to right-center field to cut the deficit to one.
Angelo State took its first lead in the eighth. The Rams loaded the bases, and a wild pitch allowed
Austin Beck to score. Greene followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 7-6.
The Dustdevils answered in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases and scoring three runs on a sacrifice fly, an RBI single and a wild pitch to regain the lead for good as the Rams were unable to respond in the ninth.
Angelo State returns home Friday to open a four-game series against Texas A&M–Kingsville at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
