Opare Claims LSC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year Honors

Richardson, Texas – Angelo State track standout William Opare continues to rake in the accolades, this time being named the Lone Star Conference's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the conference announced this morning.

The freshman from Accra, Ghana, totaled a meet-high 21.50 points at the LSC Championships, winning the conference title in the 200-meter (20.89) and 400-meter (45.95), and earned points in the 4x400m relay.

The Marketing major claimed the national championship in the 400 meters and served as the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay. He also claimed a second-place finish in the 200 meters.

Opare was also the high-point scorer at the national meet, with 20.5 points, as the Rams finished fourth overall.

Opare is the second Ram to claim conference indoor track athlete of the year honors and the first since 2023. Under head coach Tom Dibbern, the Rambelles and Rams have collected eight indoor track and field athlete of the year awards.

The Rambelles and Rams are home this weekend to host the David Noble Relays this Thursday-Saturday.
