SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State track and field teams wrapped up competition at three meets this weekend, racking up 15 provisionals.
The distance runners competed last night at Tarleton State. At the same time,
Adrian Nethersole, running the 800 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, finished with a time of 1:49.90, good enough for a provisional in the event.
The rest of the Rams and the Rambelles were in Portales today at the Greyhound Open hosted by Eastern New Mexico.
For the Rambelles,
Kaylee Price and
Lainey Jernigan improved on previously set provisionals in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:00.30 and 1:01.14, respectively. Price's time is a two-thirds-of-a-second improvement from her season best.
Kinlee Lawlis set a new qualifying mark in the 200 meters with a time of 23.91.
Despite not improving on her season best,
Keagan Galmor set a provisional in the 400 meters with a time of 55.37.
Ekaterina Fedotova in the javelin (43.58m), and
Kamryn Williams in the shot put (13.98m) and discus (45.87m), set provisionals but did not improve on season bests.
The Rams' performances in Portales are highlighted by the 4x100m relay team of
Bautista Diamante,
Taylor Briggs,
Francis Patanpatan, and
William Opare, who crossed the line in 39.63, tied for the fastest time in the country. The time is also a program record, which shatters the previously-set 39.80 set by the Rams in 1981.
Opare, also running in the 400 meters, finished with a time of 45.82, an improvement over his season best.
Rami Balti joins his teammate Opare in improving the 400 meters with a time of 46.24.
In the 400m hurdles,
Taylor Briggs set a new season best with a time of 52.03.
Jonathan Wright recorded the Rams' lone provisional in field events, doing so in the pole vault with a best mark of 5.16 meters.
The Rams had two 4x400 relay teams record provisional times and finished first and second in the event.
Balti, Briggs,
Evan Kipley, and
Reece Waddell clocked a time of 3:09.92, and the second relay team of
Jahleel Armstrong, Diamante,
Karl Patanpatan, and
Clayton Carlin finished with a time of 3:11.73.
