Richardson, Texas – The Angelo State men's track and field team swept the Lone Star Conference's weekly awards this afternoon as
Jonathan Wright claimed Field Athlete of the Week honors, while the men's 4x100 meter relay team of
Bautista Diamante,
Taylor Briggs,
Francis Patanpatan, and
William Opare was named the Track Athlete of the Week.
Wright, an Engineering student from Coahoma, won the pole vault at the Greyhound Open this past weekend with a vault of 16-11 (5.16 meters).
Wright's mark is second in the LSC and 12
th in the country.
The relay team won the event at the Greyhound Open with a time of 39.75, which is good enough for third-best in the country and set a new school record, breaking the record previously set in 1981.
Wright is the first ASU field athlete to claim a weekly award during the outdoor season, while the relay team earns the Rams' fourth LSC award on the track this season.
The Rams and Rambelles compete in the ASU Invite today and tomorrow at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
