SAN ANGELO, Texas – History highlighted a doubleheader sweep for the Angelo State baseball team on Saturday as the No. 14 Rams defeated Cameron 6-5 and 4-1 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the wins, Angelo State improves to 35-14 overall and 16-10 at home, extending its win streak to eight games. The day was headlined by
Austin Beck, who became the first player in NCAA Division II history to score 300 career runs, setting the all-time record.
Game 1: Angelo State 6, Cameron 5
The Rams struck first in the opener as Beck doubled down the left-field line to score

Brett Smajstrla added an RBI single to make it 2-0.
With his run scored in the first inning, Beck reached the 300-run milestone, becoming Division II's all-time leader.
Nick Gray made the start for Angelo State, working 5 1/3 innings and allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three.
Cameron got on the board with a solo home run in the fourth, but the Rams answered in the bottom half with Smajstrla's second RBI single to maintain a two-run lead.
The Aggies tied the game in the sixth with back-to-back RBI singles before
Garrett Villa entered in relief to limit further damage.
Smajstrla gave the Rams the lead again in the sixth with a solo home run down the left-field line, but Cameron responded with a two-run homer in the seventh to take its first lead of the game.
Angelo State answered in its final at-bat. Kanon Brooks led off the seventh by drawing a hit-by-pitch as a pinch hitter and was replaced by pinch runner
Connor DiGesualdo, who stole second. Gam Jones followed with an RBI single to tie the game, then moved into scoring position on a steal and an errant throw.
Payton Bush delivered the game-winning hit with a single up the middle.
Jude Stephens earned the win, recording the final two outs in the top of the seventh.
Game 2: Angelo State 4, Cameron 1
The Rams carried their momentum into the nightcap, scoring three early runs.
Chase Pendley opened the scoring with a solo home run to left field, his second in as many days. Later in the inning, Beck brought home Bush on a groundout. In the second,
Gamaliel Jones added a run with a bunt single that scored
Hunter Holt to extend the lead to 3-0.
Cameron plated its lone run in the fourth on an RBI double, but starter
Luke Spencer responded by striking out the side to end the threat.
Angelo State added an insurance run in the sixth after three consecutive hit-by-pitches loaded the bases before Chris Bernal drove in a run with a groundout.
Spencer went the distance, tossing a complete game. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits while striking out nine.
The Rams close out the regular season against the Aggies on Sunday, April 25. Senior Day ceremonies are scheduled for approximately 12:40 p.m., with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
