AUSTIN – Angelo State freshman runner
William Opare claimed top honors in the 200 meters invitational this afternoon at the 98
th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas, beating out six Division I competitors and a trio of professional athletes.
Opare crossed the line with a time of 20.48 seconds, the fastest time in Division II this season to just edge out Clemson's Jalen Johnson, who clocked a 20.50.
As a team, the Rams and Rambelles picked up ten provisional marks at the Texas Relays.
The other provisional of the day belongs to the men's 4x400m relay team of
Francis Patanpatan,
Adrian Nethersole,
Karl Patanpatan, and
Jahleel Armstrong, who finished with a time of 3:08.71.
In the throwing ring, the Rams and Rambelles had three throwers competing in discus.
Vanam Sharma and
Kobi Valchar had best throws of 160-7 (48.96m) and 149-7 (45.59m), respectively, while
Kamryn Williams, the lone Rambelle to throw today, reached 139-5 (42.50m) today, besting a pair of Division I competitors.
The Rams and Rambelles are back in action next week to compete in the War Hawk Classic hosted by McMurry.
