Richardson, Texas – Angelo State track standout
William Opare has been named the Lone Star Conference's Track Athlete of the Week following his standout performances this past weekend at the 98th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Opare won the 200-meter invitational, competing in a field of Division I and professional athletes, finishing in 20.48 seconds, the fastest time in Division II this season.
He also ran as part of the 4x400m relay team that claimed the top prize in the event's prelims, helping the team to a time of 3:06.24, the fastest time in the country by nearly two seconds.
The Marketing major ran a 44.60 split on his leg of the relay.
Additionally, the Accra, Ghana, native also holds the country's fastest time in the 400 meters.
This is Opare's second athlete of the week award this season and his first of the outdoor season.
