Emporia, Kan. – The Angelo State track and field team earned seven All-American honors during the first day of action at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships today at Emporia State.
Marie Schuler collected the lone First Team All-American honor of the day for ASU, doing so after an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw. The German finished with a best throw of 186-5 (56.82m).
The Rambelles currently sit in a tie for 19th place with the lone point scored from Schuler's eighth-place finish in the hammer throw.
Kamryn Williams finished ninth, earning Second Team All-American plaudits. The Wall native threw a new personal best throw of 185-2 (56.45m); senior
Esma Pajt joined Williams on the second team with an 11th-place finish with a season-best throw of 182-9 (55.71m).
The other four All-American honors came by way of the men's 4x100m relay team of
Bautista Diamante,
Francis Patanpatan,
Lamont Reed, and
Taylor Briggs, who finished 12
th overall in the prelims with a time of 41.08 to be named Second Team All-Americans.
In other action,
Abril Okon sits in tenth place after day one of action in the heptathlon with 3,046 points. The junior's day was highlighted by a personal best in the high jump with a mark of 5-7.75 (1.72m), which is a personal best and resulted in a three-way tie for the win in the event.
Okon wraps up the heptathlon tomorrow, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the long jump.
In preliminary action on the track,
William Opare and
Jahleel Armstrong advance to the finals in the 400 meters. Opare finished second with a time of 45.93 seconds while Armstrong clocked a 46.62 to finish sixth.
Kaylee Price advances to the finals in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 59.37, good enough to finish eighth in the prelims.
Okon kicks off Friday's action, while
Vanam Sharma will compete in the discus at 1:30 p.m. and
Dayvon Williams goes in the high jump at 3:30 p.m. Running prelims begin at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow with the 200 meters.
