Emporia, Kan. – The Angelo State track and field teams saw three of their athletes earn All-American honors on the second day of competition at the Division II Outdoor National Championships at Francis G. Welch Stadium at Emporia State.
Dayvon Williams finished in a three-way tie for eighth place in the high jump and earned First Team All-American honors.
Williams finished with a high mark of 6-10.75 (2.10m), which ties the junior's personal best.
Abril Okon wrapped up the heptathlon competition, finishing 14th in the field and earning Second Team All-American honors.
Okon's day two ended on a high note as she finished sixth in the 800 meters. She ended the multis with 4,874 points. She competes tomorrow in the women's high jump.
Vanam Sharma joined Okon as a Second Team All-American, finishing 12
th overall in the discus. The junior had a best throw of 169-4 (51.62m) as he became the fourth thrower to earn All-American honors this week.
In prelim action on the track,
William Opare advanced to the finals in the 200 meters after finishing second overall with a time of 20.62.
The men's 4x400m relay team of
Taylor Briggs,
Jahleel Armstrong,
Bautista Diamante, and
Rami Balti finished second, advancing to tomorrow's finals with a time of 3:06.33.
Tomorrow's field action begins at noon as
Jaime Moreno competes in the javelin,
Jonathan Wright competes in the men's pole vault at 2 p.m., and
Ekaterina Fedotova throws in the javelin at 3 p.m.
