Emporia, Kan. – The Angelo State track and field team wrapped up the final day of the Division II Outdoor National Championships hosted by Emporia State.
The Rams finished seventh overall as a team, scoring 37.33 points.
For the weekend, ASU earned 22 All-American honors – 11 on both the first and second teams. The Rams collected 15 All-American awards while the Rambelles earned seven.
Today's action began in the javelin, where
Jaime Moreno finished fifth overall with a personal best throw of 229-11 (70.08m), which came on his sixth and final throw of the day and moved him up three places.
Three field athletes –
Jonathan Wright,
Abril Okon, and
Ekaterina Fedotova – all earned second team All-American honors in field events, doing so in the pole vault, high jump, and javelin, respectively.
Wright topped out with a mark of 16-5.75 (5.01m), while Okon's best jump was 5-3.75 (1.62m) and Fedotova's best throw in the javelin was 147-8 (45.01m).
In the running finals,
William Opare did the double as he claimed the outdoor national championship in the 400 meters to go along with his indoor crown. The freshman ran a 44.95, a personal best mark, a new facility record at Francis G. Welch Stadium, and the fifth-fastest time ever in Division II. The mark is also a new program record, besting the 45.69 set by Luis Perez in 2016.
Jahleel Armstrong finished sixth in the race with a time of 46.61 to be named a First Team All-American.
Kaylee Price finished seventh in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line with a personal best time of 59.27 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Opare claimed his third individual national championship with a new personal best time of 20.45 seconds. Opare, who finished as the runner-up in this event at indoor nationals, won his two individual titles in a roughly 90-minute span.
The men's 4x400m relay team of
Taylor Briggs, Armstrong,
Rami Balti, and Opare ended the Rams' meet on a high note as the relay team won the outdoor national championship to go along with their indoor title from this past March.
The quartet won with a time of 3:04.46, a facility record at Francis G. Welch Stadium and a new program record, over a second faster than the previous best, a 3:05.89 set back in 1997.
