Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State track and field teams wrapped up day one of competition at the LSC Championships hosted by West Texas A&M, as the Rams and Rambelles both sit in second place.
The Rams and Rambelles claimed two individual championships on day one, with
Jonathan Wright winning the pole vault with a mark of 17-0 (5.18 meters) while
Marie Schuler won the hammer with a throw of 197-1 (60.07 meters).
Esma Pajt made it a 1-2 finish in the hammer with a mark of 182-07 (55.67 meters). The mark is a season best for the senior and ranks 15
th in the country.
Kobi Valchar (175-11; 53.63 meters) finished second in the hammer with a personal best, and
Luis Campos-Mendoza finished fourth (170-3; 51.90 meters).
The multis started competition this afternoon, and in the heptathlon,
Abril Okon finished day one in second place, only 149 points off first place. Okon finished second in the 100m hurdles and the high jump – recording a provisional in the latter with a jump of 5-7.25 (1.71 meters).
Gracie Stephens sits in fourth place behind a second-place finish in the shot put, and
Kylie Frush finished day one in fifth after ending the day with a win in the 200 meters.
In preliminary heats on the track,
Lainey Jernigan and
Kaylee Price advanced to the finals in the 100 meters, and
Kinlee Lawlis qualified for the finals in the 200 meters.
For the Rams,
William Opare,
Francis Patanpatan, and
Jahleel Armstrong advanced to the finals in the 200 meters.
The Rams and Rambelles resume competition tomorrow morning, starting with the women's heptathlon long jump.
