Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State track and field teams wrapped up day two of competition at the Lone Star Conference Championships hosted by West Texas A&M, with the Rams and Rambelles entering the final day of competition sitting in second place.
The multis wrapped up the second half of their competition this afternoon, and
Abril Okon finished as the runner-up in the heptathlon with a season-best 5,038 points.
Kylie Frush finished fifth with 4,846 points, and
Gracie Stephens was sixth with 4,720 points.
Kitzy Welch led ASU in the discus throw with a fourth-place finish with a personal best throw of 150-8 (45.94m). On the men's side, Vanan Sharma and
Kobi Valchar finished second and third, respectively, while
Hassani Myers,
Jeremiah King, and
Rafael Quiles picked up points in fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
In preliminary action on the track,
Adrian Nethersole and
Karl Patanpatan advanced to the finals in the 800 meters.
A trio of Rambelles –
Lainey Jernigan,
Kaylee Price, and
Helene Wiethoff – qualified in the 400-meter hurdles, with Jernigan doing so with a personal best time of 1:00.69.
Jernigan and Price moved forward in the 100-meter hurdles, with Jernigan recording a personal best in the race with a time of 14.19.
Reece Waddell finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best of 52.41 to advance to the finals.
Keagan Galmor advanced in the 400 meters, and on the men's side,
Jahleel Armstrong and
Rami Balti moved to tomorrow's finals after finishing 1-2 in prelims. Armstrong clocked a time of 46.46, a personal best and the 18
th-best time in the country this season.
In the 200 meters,
Kinlee Lawlis advanced for the Rambelles, while
William Opare,
Francis Patanpatan, and Armstrong moved on for the Rams. Lawlis, along with Aaliyah Harrison, will run in the finals of the 100 meters.
Opare also qualified for the 100-meter finals with a time of 10.10, a personal best and the fifth-best time in Division II this season.
The Rams and Rambelles close their time at the LSC Championships tomorrow, with field events starting at 10 a.m., while the running finals will begin at 5:30 p.m.
