SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 21 Angelo State volleyball capped a perfect opening weekend Saturday, earning victories over Minnesota State-Moorhead and Colorado State-Pueblo to finish undefeated at the 16th annual Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, presented by Oliver, Rainey and Wojtek, inside the Junell Center-Stephens Arena.
The Belles finished the weekend with a 4-0 record after sweeping both Friday matches before earning a four-set victory over Minnesota State-Moorhead and a three-set sweep of CSU-Pueblo on Saturday.
MATCH THREE: vs. Minnesota St.-Moorhead – W, 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-18, 26-24)
Minnesota State-Moorhead opened the match by scoring the first point and controlled the opening set, with Angelo State taking just one lead and tying the score eight times before dropping its first set of the season.
The Belles responded with three consecutive set victories to overcome the early deficit and remain undefeated on the season.
Angelo State finished the match hitting .202 while committing 27 attack errors and being blocked 13 times. The Belles found their rhythm at the service line, however, recording 13 aces.
Madi Parrish and
Julia Hopkins combined for 10 of those aces.
Allie Kirkpatrick led all players with 20 kills while hitting .385.
Sydney Thornton and Hopkins each added 10 kills, while Parrish finished with eight.
Gabi Ashcraft paced the offense with 29 assists, while Pena added 16.
MATCH FOUR: vs. Colorado St.-Pueblo – W, 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-21)
The Belles closed the tournament with their third sweep of the weekend as they hit .248 as a team while limiting CSU-Pueblo to a .106 hitting percentage. The Belles also improved defensively at the net, allowing fewer blocks than in their earlier matches.
Parrish led the Blue and Gold with nine kills, followed by
Vivian Parker with eight. Kirkpatrick, Thornton and Hopkins each added six kills.
Pena directed the offense with 13 assists, while Ashcraft contributed 12.
With the four victories, Angelo State opens the 2026 season 4-0 and will now hit the road for its first away matches of the season. The Belles travel to Colorado to face Adams State in Alamosa on Tuesday, Sept. 1, before competing in the Colorado Premier Challenge next weekend.
