SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 6 Angelo State University volleyball team battled back from a late Cameron run Saturday afternoon, earning a five-set victory over the Aggies during Military Appreciation Day at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
With the win, the Belles improve to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play, while Cameron falls to 1-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The victory also featured a major career milestone for
Madi Parrish. With her 11th dig of the match in the third set, Parrish became the 13th player in program history to record 1,000 career digs.
Parrish also became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs while surpassing 1,300 career kills, joining Jennifer Glass (1993-96) and Brianna Sotello (2014-17).
As a team, the Belles controlled the statistical battle, outhitting the Aggies .225 to .168 while holding advantages in kills, 66-44, service aces, 10-5, assists, 64-43, and digs, 85-72.
Julia Hopkins led all players with a match-high 15 kills while hitting .353.
Parrish finished with 13 kills and a team-high 15 digs, bringing her career total to 1,004 digs.
Alli Kirkpatrick added 10 kills while hitting .320, while
Sydney Thornton and
Leah Klueber each recorded eight kills.
Vivian Parker added seven kills for the Belles.
Gabi Ashcraft led Angelo State with 26 assists, while
Olivia Pena added 21.
Allie Duitsman and
Madison Scrivner contributed eight and seven assists, respectively.
Hannah Barnhill led the Belles with two solo blocks, while Duitsman paced the defense with a match-high 25 digs.
The Belles will make a quick turnaround in LSC play Tuesday when they host Sul Ross State at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
