Final Stats (.pdf Format)

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Alex Woolsey lead the Rambelles for the second night in a row, registering her third double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough, as Angelo State dropped a disappointing five set (21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 13-15) match to Colorado School of Mines Saturday night in the final game of the Angelo Retina/ASU Invitational.

Woolsey posted a match-high 48 assists, 14 digs, seven kills and three total blocks in the contest, while freshman Kaelen Valdez continued her hot streak recording her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. Angelo State (3-5) was also led by sophomores Alisa Meredith, Emily Booth and Chelsea Gibson. Meredith tallied eight kills and 10 digs, while Booth slammed 13 kills, had six total blocks, three digs and hit .470. Gibson pounded out 11 kills, with a .400 hitting percentage and two block assists for ASU.

The 'Belles played hard and out-hit Colorado Mines (6-2) .237 to .168. With the sets evened at one apiece, the third set began with the Rambelles trailing, 3-0. The Orediggers led most of the set taking a four point (24-20) lead on back-to-back kills by Elizabeth Serra-Hsu. Angelo State was not ready to concede, as the 'Belles racked up six consecutive points to take the third set, 26-24. The crowd at Stephens Arena was in an uproar as Gibson knocked down a kill to give the Rambelles their first lead of the set (25-24), forcing a timeout by CSMU. With freshman Teal Mahan at the line, Angelo State sealed game three on an attack error by the Orediggers.

With a 2-1 lead going into the fourth set, the 'Belles fell behind the Orediggers once more, trailing by four (14-10). Battling back again, ASU tied the game at 16 on a Booth kill. But Colorado Mines was determined to force a fifth set as it ended the fourth game on an 11-5 run, winning by a score of 25-21.

The fifth and deciding set was a back-and-forth affair as it saw 12 ties and nine lead changes. With the score knotted at 12, the Orediggers' Holly Hutchison knocked down a kill compelling ASU to call a timeout. Colorado Mines extended its lead to two (14-12) on a kill by Anna Padget-Shields and with match-point on the line, Gibson stepped up for the 'Belles and slammed her 11th kill of the night to pull the 'Belles within one (14-13). After a Colorado Mines timeout, the 'Belles had an opportunity to tie the game at 14, but hit the net on a service ace instead to drop the contest, 15-13.

Serra-Hsu led the Orediggers with 16 kills, 12 digs and two service aces. CSMU's setter, Amanda Massey also registered a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.

The 'Belles look to get back on the winning track Tuesday, Sept. 14, when they host Abilene Christian at 7 p.m., at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center. Follow the game with live stats and live video at AngeloSports.com.
