LAKELAND, Fla. – Chelsea Gibson pounded out a team-high 13 kills and a pair of block assists, but the Rambelles were unable to overcome Missouri S&T's offense, dropping their second 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25) decision in as many games at the Florida Southern Classic, Friday afternoon.

Angelo State (0-2) was led by Gibson, as well as sophomore Alex Woolsey and junior Debbie Ohl. Woolsey, a setter out of Plano East High School, was one dig short of a double-double, registering a match-high 45 assists, nine digs, two kills and one block assist. Ohl, a junior transfer from Hutchinson, Kan., played well offensively as she notched 10 kills with a .421 hitting percentage. Sophomore Alexa Williams paced the defense with a match-high 19 digs.

The 'Belles matched the Lady Miners (2-0) point-for-point in the first set until senior Bridget Williams forced the Rambelles into three consecutive attack errors which gave Missouri S&T a four-point lead (10-6) that it would never relinquish. The Lady Miners would go on to collect a 25-18 victory.

The Rambelles came out determined in the second set, jumping out to a 9-3 advantage on a kill by Gibson. The Lady Miners trailed the whole set and were held to a .186 hitting percentage. Angelo State controlled set two as it coasted to a 25-19 win.

With the match knotted at one game apiece, both teams put up a fight in the third set. The two teams traded points in the nail-biter, but Missouri S&T came out victorious after breaking a 19-19 tie on an Erica Gallois kill. The Lady Miners took set three, 25-22.

Missouri S&T took an early 10-6 lead in the fourth set, but the 'Belles fought back to eventually tie the game at 20. With the match on the line, the Lady Miners pulled away on a kill by Kit Spears, followed by a service ace by Erin Bekebrede. Missouri S&T went on to win the fourth and deciding set, 25-23.

Bekebrede and Samantha Klump each tallied 13 kills for Missouri S&T, while Williams had 18 digs and Jennifer Costello picked up 36 assists.

Angelo State will return to the court Saturday, Sept. 4, when it takes on Southwest Baptist at 10 a.m., before concluding the Florida Southern Classic with a 4 p.m., match up with Montevallo.
