ABILENE, Texas – Debbie Ohl had 17 kills along with
Alex Woolsey's 55 assists for the No. 16 Angelo State, but it was not enough as the Belles dropped their match against Abilene Christian, 2-3 (23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15, 13-15) Tuesday night. Angelo State suffers back-to-back losses for the first time this season after the five-set match bout.
The Belles last losing streak was over a year ago with back-to-back losses to then-ranked No. 7 Washburn on Oct. 2 then again to then-ranked No.21 Abilene Christian on Oct. 5.
Abilene Christian improves to 18-12 overall and 12-6 in the Lone Star Conference. The Wildcats' Jennie Hutt had 21 kills to lead Abilene Christian and added nine digs and four blocks to her stat line. Haley Rhoads had 63 assists to pace the Wildcats offense.
Ohl and Woolsey added 10 and 19 digs for Angelo State (26-4, 15-3 LSC) respectively. Woolsey now has 19 double-doubles on the season, including six straight while Ohl added her sixth overall double-double of the year.
Three other Belle players –
Maddie Huth (15),
Celeste Bonter (14) and
Chelsea Gibson (12) – had double-digit kills for Angelo State. Freshman
Shelby Wilt led with 23 digs – her ninth match of 20 or more digs this season – while
Kaelen Valdez and
Kayla Smith added 14 and 16 respectively.
The Belles return home later this week to wrap their regular season schedule. On Thursday, Nov. 3 Angelo State hosts Cameron University at 7 p.m. then on Saturday, Nov. 5 the Belles will play Midwestern State on Senior Day with that match set to begin at 2 p.m. Both matches are at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
