LUBBOCK – Andria Nussey ran the fastest 800-meter run by a NCAA Division II athlete this season while claiming the meet title and was one of five Rambelles to post NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Texas Tech Open Saturday. On the men's side, Trevor Rogers won the long jump with a jump of 7.24, also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Nussey finished the 800-meter race at the Athletic Training Center in 2:12.33, more than a second faster than Texas Tech's Kearcie Jobe and almost two seconds faster than Jennifer Secrest (Wayland Baptist), the closest Division II athlete. Nussey's time bested her previous provisional mark set two weeks ago in the Rambelles season opener and helped her claim the top spot at both Saturday's meet and on the nation's leader board.

Angelo State freshman Kati Holly won the high jump with a leap of 1.67 meters in the finals, while also posting a provisional qualifying height. Bree Bennett posted the fifth-best time during 55-meter hurdles qualifying at 8.28 seconds and maintained her fifth place position with an 8.39 in the finals. Kelsey Wilson and Summer Sutherland finished second and third in the pole vault and both provisionally qualified with vaults of 3.70 meters and 3.55 meters respectively.

Other top performers on the women's side for Angelo State included Tiffany Wilcox, who qualified for the finals in the 55-meter dash with a 7.31 in qualifying before improving her time to 7.29 seconds in the finals. Theresa Sue broke the top-10 with a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash. She was one of 10 women to finish in under a minute at 59.06 on Saturday. Bennett also posted a 5.34 meter long jump, good enough for fourth place.

In addition to Rogers' win in the long jump, the Angelo State men who competed Saturday managed a sweep of the top three spots in the pole vault. Jacob McDonald, Tyler Orlando and Hewitt Holmes all cleared 4.65 meters, but McDonald took the meet title because it took him less attempts to clear the height.

The Angelo State women's indoor track and field team will have a weekend off before returning to Lubbock for the SPC Invite on Feb. 18. The meet will serve as the last indoor meet before the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., March 11-12.
