SAN ANGELO –
The Belle volleyball team swept through the West Texas Lady Buff Classic defeating UC-Colorado Springs, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-13), before shutting down Adams State, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19). Sophomore Kaelen Valdez turned in a pair of double-double performances and junior Alex Woolsey notched a double-double of her own in the match against UCCS.

Valdez recorded 11 kills in each match and added 13 digs in against UC-Colorado Springs (1-2) before accumulating 11 digs versus Adams State (2-2). She has tallied three double-doubles in four matches thus far.

The Belles' (4-0) defense was key against the Mountain Lions as they limited UCCS to a -.077 hitting percentage. The Mountain Lions never recorded a positive hitting percentage as they hit -.081 in the first set, -.023 in the second and -.120 in the third.

As a team, Angelo State record 12.0 total blocks, as it was led by senior Debbie Ohl's five block assists. Ohl added 10 kills to help propel the offense, while sophomore Maddie Huth tacked on seven kills of her own, with four block assists and a .353 hitting percentage.

Woolsey paced the Belles with 33 assists and 13 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Despite a six-hour break between matches, the Belles did not lose any momentum and picked up right where they left off as they came out swinging against Adams State. Valdez again led the offensive attack with a team-best 11 kills and added 11 digs for another double-double, while senior transfer Celeste Bonter also reached double-figures with 10 kills of her own. Bonter hit .316 in the match and contributed three block assists.

Freshman Shelby Wilt recorded her first-career kill in the contest and notched eight digs to help lead the defense. Just as it had done in the first match, the Belles' defense was solid and held the Grizzlies to just a .043 hitting percentage.

However, the Belles weren't just all about defense as the offense tallied 45 kills and hit .337 against the Grizzlies. Woolsey tallied 38 assists, five digs, and three total blocks, while senior Kayla Smith contributed eight digs for the Belles.

UC-Colorado Springs was led by Nikki Kinzer's seven kills and .333 hitting percentage. Sonja Johnson and Skylar Lewandowski recorded 11 and 10 digs, respectively, while setter Cindy Bathelt tallied 20 assists.

Dominique Davis was the only Grizzly to record double-digit kills with 11. She also led the squad with a .259 hitting percentage and a pair of block assists. Gabriella Rifilato notched 21 assists, while Valerie Garcia and AJ Palmer each contributed seven digs.

The Belles look to continue their winning ways as they head to San Antonio, Tuesday, Sept. 6, to battle it out with Lone Star Conference foe Incarnate Word. The conference opener is slated for 7 p.m.
