SAN ANGELO – No. 9 Angelo State stayed perfect inside the Junell Center and swept Abilene Christian for the second time this season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-21) Lone Star Conference win on Friday in front of a season-high 964 fans.

The Belles (19-3, 12-1 LSC) have now swept 14 opponents this season and have won six straight matches and 14 of their last 15. ASU, which is now 8-0 on the Stephens Arena court, dominated the first set with a .350 hitting percentage and got off to a 12-0 lead in the second set en route to the win over the Wildcats (9-13, 5-7 LSC) who were coming off an upset win over West Texas A&M last Saturday.

“We played great defense and we did a great job of serving tough,” ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. “They have some nice attackers on their team and we needed to get them out of system. I wish we could have hit for a higher percentage so there is still some parts to our game that we need to iron out.”

Maddie Huth led the Belles with 10 kills and seven blocks, while Alex Woolsey added 34 assists and nine digs. Kaelen Valdez and Shelbi Goode had nine and eight kills, respectively, with Haley Bianco leading the team with 17 digs and Shelby Wilt adding another 16 for the ASU defense.

ASU limited Abilene Christian to a .066 hitting percentage in the match which lasted only an hour and 15 minutes. Jennie Loerch led ACU with 10 kills while Sarah Siemens added 23 assists.

“They were coming off a huge week and had a week to prepare just like we did,” Waddington said. “It's a very good win for our team. I'm really pleased with the focus we had and the way that we came out ready to play.”

Angelo State returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against Incarnate Word for its annual Dig Pink match. ASU remains atop the LSC standings with its 12-1 record with Tarleton State at 9-2 and West Texas A&M at 9-2 in conference play.
