Game at Durant, Oklahoma | The Ballpark in Durant | Rams leads series 2-0

DURANT, Okla.Tate Allison had a home run and run-scoring triple to back a strong pitching performance from Rick Reyna as the Angelo State baseball team took a 4-3 non-conference win over Southeastern Oklahoma State in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday at The Ballpark in Durant.

The Rams improved to 8-2 on the season with the pair of wins, while dropping the Savage Storm to 4-2. The two teams conclude the three-game series at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

“We did a tremendous job of pitching today,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “Jake really came out and set the tone for the day and Rick followed with a great outing. Jake was attacking the hitters with strikes and our hitters did a good job with their approaches and getting runs to get the wins.”

Reyna improved his pitching record to 2-1, while Michael Weatherly earned the save by striking out the side in the ninth inning two days after being named the Lone Star Conference's Pitcher of the Week. Reyna struck out seven Savage Storm hitters and now has 22 strikeouts through his first 20 innings of work.

Allison's home run was his second of the season and he takes his RBI total to five with his first triple of the season. Ryan Greer recorded his sixth RBI of the season with a single in the eighth innings, while Lee Neumann scored the Rams' final run on a fielder's choice.

“I was feeling good and was really just trying to hit the ball hard,” Allison said. “Their pitcher left a split finger up in the zone and I was able to put a good swing on it.”

The Rams, who are now 19-10 all-time against the Savage Storm, have outscored their opponents 67-36 this season and have recorded two shutouts. ASU is 2-0 in games decided by one run and are 4-2 away from Foster Field.

I was really confident in our defense and really felt relaxed on the mound knowing that they were behind me. I was going out there and not backing down from anyone.”
