No. 9 Rams Rally for 5-2 Win Over Cardinals

ANGELO STATE BASEBALL
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The ninth-ranked Angelo State Rams rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to claim a 5-2 Lone Star Conference win over Incarnate Word on Friday in the first game of a four-game series.
 
Angelo State improves to 19-6 overall, 3-2 in LSC play and 11-1 at Foster Field with the win, while Incarnate Word falls to 7-9 on the season (2-3 LSC).
 
Ryan Greer, Andrew LaCombe and Brett Parsons gave the Rams three straight plate appearances with runs batted in after Quaid McKinnon started the inning with a single and was followed by a Lee Neumann double. The Rams would tack on two more runs on a Doug Snover infield single where Matt Rechkemmer scored from third and Tate Allison came in from second.
 
Travis Stavinoha (2-0) earned the win for ASU after coming into the game in the seventh inning for starter Rick Reyna. Stavinoha struck out three and gave up one run in 2.0 innings of work, while Reyna gets the no decision after striking out seven in 6.0 innings. Reyna did not give up a run until his 100th pitch of the night resulted in Slade Brown delivering a run scoring single for the Cardinals for the game's first run. Michael Weathelry earned his fifth save of the season by coming in and shutting UIW down in order.
 
McKinnon led the Rams with three hits in the game, while Semler had two hits team leading 31st hit of the season and his 10th multiple hit game. McKinnon improved his season's batting average to .333 with the performance that pushed his seasson's hit total to 30. ASU finished the game with 11 hits, while the Cardinals had eight. Neumann's double was his team-leading eighth, while Snover has now reached base in 18 straight games.
 
The two teams return to Foster Field at 4 p.m. on Saturday for a doubleheader before concluding the series with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
