RAM NOTES
SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State moves up two spots to No. 7 in the nation in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll after earning a 3-1 series win over Incarnate Word last weekend.
The Rams (21-7, 5-3 Lone Star Conference) hit .368 as a team and had a 3.94 team earned run average against the preseason pick to win the conference. ASU outscored the Cardinals 28-14 in the four-game series – including picking up a 12-4 victory in the closeout game. This is the fourth straight week the Rams have been a nationally ranked top-10 team and their record is a program's best through the first 28 games of the season.
Angelo State comes in at No. 10 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll and also returned to favor in the eyes of the College Baseball Lineup, coming in at No. 20 this week in its poll. The Rams had been booted from the Lineup's top-30 rankings after splitting with a tough Texas A&M-Kingsville team on the road. ASU stays in neutral at No. 21 for the second straight week according to D2BaseballNews.com.
The Rams travel to Canyon to play conference-leading West Texas A&M (18-5, 7-1 LSC) this week. The Buffs are coming off a 3-1 series win over Tarleton State and have entered Collegiate Baseball's poll for the first time this season – coming in at No. 22. WTAMU has also entered D2BaseballNews.com's rankings at No. 23 and the College Baseball Lineup rankings at No. 29.
St. Mary's (25-5) swept Newman last weekend and catapulted into the nation's No. 1 ranking. The Rattlers and Rams will have a rematch of ASU's 6-5 road win on April 11 at Foster Field.
