SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team lost to No. 7 West Texas A&M, 81-42, in a Lone Star Conference matchup on Wednesday night at the Junell Center.
The Belles (9-6, 3-2 LSC) struggled shooting hitting only 27-percent from the field and hit a single three pointer. The Lady Buffs (12-1, 3-0 LSC) hit 49-percent from the floor including 11 three pointers. West Texas A&M won the rebounding battle 50-23 and forced 18 ASU turnovers.
WTAMU started the game on a 12-4 before a Tati Haynes slowed the Lady Buffs down. The Belles couldn't find their mark being outscored 25-11 over the final 15:23 of the half to make the score 37-17 in favor of West Texas A&M at the half.
The Lady Buffs continued to increase the deficit with a 9-3 run to start the second half. A
Rochelle Norris jumper would spark a 6-4 ASU run to make it 53-28 after two
Karli Kellermeier free throws. A 17-4 run by West Texas A&M would put the Lady Buffs up 70-32 with 11:32 to go. The two teams would trade baskets over the final 5:45 of the game to make it 81-42.
Norris led the Belle with 12 points. It is her third-straight game to score in double figures.
West Texas A&M was led by Lacee Logan and Raven Gerald who both scored 15 points. Overall, four Lady Buffs were scored in double figures.
The Belles will travel to Portales, N.M., to face Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday. Â
