SAN ANGELO – Fresh off a dominating 4-0 performance at the International Hall of Fame Invitational in Springfield, Massachusetts, the Angelo State volleyball team will be looking to add to their 1-0 conference record on the road in Commerce as they face the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday, September 22 at 6 p.m.
ASU is currently 12-3 (7-3 on the road) on the season and is looking to remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play. The Belles are 8-1 versus Commerce and 88-25 in the LSC under head coach
Chuck Waddington.
The team continues its conference schedule second in the LSC in hitting percentage at .220, kills (14.33) and assists per set (13.51). TAMUC hits .194 as a team while averaging 12.76 kills and 11.60 assists per set. ASU currently sits at second in the league with a 19.15 team dig average. The Belles have also held opponents to a .152 hitting percentage on the season.
The Belles attack is led by the trio of conference leaders
Mallory Blauser,
Brianna Sotello and
Maggi Jo Keffury. Team kill leader, Blauser has 204 on the season, which has improved her average to 3.92 per set. The junior rose from fourth in the LSC to second on the total kills list.
Team double-double leader Sotello will also look to add to the ASU attack as she is second on the team and third in the LSC with 184 kills. She will also look to assist the Belle defense as she is currently second on the team with 54 digs. The sophomore has seven double-doubles on the season.
Rounding out the trio is California native Keffury. She is currently first on the team and in the conference with 53 assists per set. She also has 135 digs on the season which is third on the squad.
Zoey Hanrahan once again hit high marks this past weekend with her impact performance setting a career high hitting percentage of .778. She currently carries a hitting percentage of .336, which is fourth in the conference.
After being honored with a tournament MVP award this past weekend in Springfield,
Katie MacLeay looks to continue to anchor the ASU defense. She has a conference first 313 digs, an average of 5.80 digs per set. She has nine matches this season with 20 or more digs.
The Belles will also feature a talented and versatile bench that includes a mix of players which have contributed to the ASU success, such as
Alyssa Orr,
Taylor Lee Seaton, and
Kelly Hasbrouck. Each of these three players are integral parts in helping the team to a 4-0 record this past weekend.
Commerce is 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in the LCS. The Lions are 1-0 at home this season and split the two games with Belles last season.
