No.7/9 Rams Remain Undefeated in LSC With Road Win Over Cameron

LAWTON, Oklahoma - The No.7/9 Angelo State men's basketball team downed Cameron, 81-77, on the road to remain undefeated on Saturday evening.

With the score tied at 38 at halftime, the Rams came out of the locker room ready to work. After a single Aggie shot from the charity stripe, Michael Thomas got the Rams on track as he rolled in a layup and took the foul to make it a three point play. This got ASU back in front and jump started a 10-2 run at the 18:42 mark. A Quay King three-pointer with 9:10 on the clock gave ASU is largest lead of the game (14) as it led 67-53. Cameron would fight back and close the gap to a just two points (79-77) with 0:24 left in the game, but a foul would send Brandon Williams to the line and he would drop two straight free throws to close out the game in the Rams favor.

The Rams climbed to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference with Saturday's win. This placed ASU only two wins away from tying last season's record of a 12-0 start. Four Rams scored in double-digits, while outscoring the Aggies 38-28 in the paint. The loss dropped Cameron to 9-5, 2-2 LSC on the year.

"We made a lot of mistakes tonight but these guys just seemed to be able to find a way to win," said ASU Head Men's Basketball Coach Cinco Boone. "We have a lot of respect for Cameron and they have great home court home court advantage, but we are happy to be 2-0 in the conference. Especially, considering that our two wins have come on the road. We have a lot to prepare for with two good teams coming into our place next week."

Lorenzo Dillard led the team in scoring as he posted a career second 21 points. The junior was 8-15 from short range and a perfect 5-5 from the stripe. The point guard also led the squad with five assists. Defensively, he pocketed a team most two steals for the evening.

Also scoring in double-figures for the game was DeVonte' Pratt, King and Williams. Pratt's 14 points ties his career high at ASU. The senior has dropped 14 points in two consecutive games and marked double-digit points in five games this season. King checked in for his ninth consecutive double-figure game with 13 points. The senior also led the team knocking down three shots from deep beyond the arc. Williams completed the group with 10 points and added a blocked shot on defense.

Thomas Tshikaya and Justin Holllins anchored the Rams defense. Tshikaya headed the team with 11 boards marking his fifth game of the season with double-figure rebounds. The senior out of France also recorded a career high four blocks against the Aggies. However, Hollins continues to rule to blocked shots category as he rejected a team leading six Aggie shots. This is a career second for the senior forward.

Angelo State opened the game with King stroking a deep 3-pointer. This would be followed by a Dillard layup that would give the team it largest lead of the half with the score sitting at 5-0. Cameron would quickly answer and climb back to take an eight point lead (19-27) with 7:34 on the clock. The Aggies would maintain the lead until Pratt stroked a deep ball to give the lead back to the Rams with 1:11 left in the half. A pair of Aggie free throws would close out the half with the score tied up at 38 each.

The Rams will return to the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center to open the new year with a match up against Tarleton State on January 5 at 7:30 p.m.
