No. 17/24 Rams Drop Road Game to No. 12/15 WTAMU

CANYON, Texas - The No. 17/24 Angelo State men's basketball team lost to No. 12/15 West Texas A&M on the road Thursday night 104-96.

With the road loss, Angelo State slides to 10-3 overall and 2-3 in the Lone Star Conference. The Rams had four players score in double figures and shot 49.2 percent from short range and 85.7 percent from the stripe against the Buffs. West Texas A&M improves to 17-2, 5-1 LSC with the win.

Quay King led the ASU offense dropping in 20 points for the night. This was his sixth game of the season with at least 20 points. Thomas Tshikaya followed with a season high 19 points and led the Rams with six assists and seven boards. Scoring a career high, DeVonte' Pratt ended the night with 18 points. The senior also added a team most two steals to assist the defense. Completing the group, Lorenzo Dillard dropped in 17 points and turned in a team second four assists.

The two teams kicked off the first half with an exchange of points, until a Tshikaya layup jump started a 12-3 Rams run at the 12:58 mark. This would place the Rams one point behind with 19-20 on the board. The Buffs then quickly responded with a lengthy run of its own posting 16 points to ASU's three over the next four min and 27 seconds to push its lead to 36-22. Taking advantage of six straight trips to the stripe beginning at the 4:35 mark, WTAMU continued to increase its lead. Pratt would close out the half with a lay-up and the two teams would head in to the break with WTAMU leading 50-36.

After the Buffs opened up the half adding three to its lead, Dillard turned a fast break layup in to three points as he sunk the added foul shot. With 15:48 on the clock the Rams pieced together a 7-2 run that included a Tshikaya deep ball pulled ASU back to within 12 with the score sitting at 63-51. The Rams would continue to cut the Buffs lead turning six straight trips to the charity stripe into another 8-2 run with 14:06 left in the game. However, West Texas A&M would hold on to the lead and take the victory.   

The Rams continue the road trip with a match-up against UT-Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas on Saturday, January 14 at 4 p.m.
