Rams Drop Road Matchup With Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The Angelo State men's basketball team fell on the road 76-67 in Stephenville Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Rams to 14-8 overall and 6-8 in the Lone Star Conference, while the conference-leading Texans moved to 22-3 overall and 13-2 in conference play.

ASU outshot TSU 38 percent to 35 percent in the game, but turned the ball over 19 times leading to 21 Texan points. Just two Rams reached the double-digit scoring mark in Quay King and Shaquan Rhoades. King led the way with 24 points on 7 of 21 shooting, while Rhoades scored 10 points of his own. Two other Rams came close to double digits as Prince Foster and Brandon Williams each scored nine.

Foster and DeVonte' Pratt tied for the team lead in assists with three apiece, and Foster also led the team defensively with four blocks and two steals.

The senior guard out of Miami opened the scoring for the Rams with a three-pointer a minute into the game. King followed with a three of his own to keep the Rams and Texans tied at six with 17:26 left in the first half. A 7-2 run from TSU would open up an early lead, but King hit another pair of three-pointers and Williams got to the free throw line to bring the game back even.

ASU would take the lead for the first time on yet another King three-pointer with six minutes remaining in the half. An ensuing 7-0 run from the Rams would put them up by six with two minutes left in the half, and they would end up with a five-point cushion heading into the locker room.

Tarleton State cut the lead down right out of the halftime break and tied the game back up, eventually taking the lead with 14:07 to play. The Texans would never relinquish that lead, going up my as many as 12 in the half. A 7-0 run from the Rams with just over two minutes remaining would bring the game within five, but it would prove too little too late as TSU hit free throws down the stretch to secure the 76-67 win.

The Rams will be back the final two home games in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center this weekend, taking on UTPB at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
