SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team rebounded with a 74-67 win over Midwestern State on Saturday evening in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
With the Rams win over the Mustangs, ASU climbs to 13-7, 5-7 LSC on the season. Four players dropped in double-digit points for Angelo State on Saturday, with two of these players setting career highs. The Rams' offense outscored MSU in the paint 22-12 and off the bench 15-13. The team's defense also tying a season mark as it blocked 13 total shots. The Mustangs fall to 13-9, 6-7 LSC with the loss.
DeVonte' Pratt, Quay King, Michael Thomas and Prince Foster headed the ASU attack against the Mustangs. Pratt marked a career high 24 points for the Rams as he went 6-11 from short range, 6-9 from beyond the arc and 6-10 from the stripe. He also co-led the team pocketing a pair of steals and was one of three players to turn in a team second six boards. King followed with a team second 16 points. Thomas was the third Ram in double-figures with 15 points. The junior forward also aided the defense with a pair of blocks and a steal. Wrapping up the group, Foster led the team with eight assists and sunk in 10 points for his second consecutive game in double-figures. The Miami native recorded a team second three blocks.
Thomas Tshikaya anchored the defense with a team high 12 rebounds and four blocks. The senior marked a season high in blocks and steals (2) in front of the home crowd. He also aided the offensive attack with nine points on the evening. Â
The Rams got things started early a Foster two-ball from inside the paint. ASU would hold on to the early lead until the 14:38 mark when MSU brought the game to an even 10 points each. A quick response with a 3-pointer from King and another Foster jumper from in the paint placed the Rams back in the driver's seat with a 15-10 lead. The Mustangs would linger and get back out in front, 31-29, with 3:25 on the game clock. MSU would maintain and enter the half up 36-34 on the Rams.
Midwestern State opened the second half maintaining its momentum and pushing the score to 45-34 in its favor. Foster would once again answer the call and rolled in a lay up to kick off an 11-0 run that ended with a deep 3 –pointer from King at the 12:50 mark.  MSU would bring the game back to an even 47 before Pratt knocked down a three to regain the lead with 10:08 left in the game. The Rams would not look back as it would continue to build upon the lead eventually taking the victory. Â
Angelo State hits the road next week with planned visits to Commerce, Texas where it will face Texas A&M – Commerce on February 9 and then Stephenville, Texas on February 11 where it will face first place Tarleton State. The February 11 match–up with the Tarleton Texans will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
