Rams Down Lions in Road Matchup

COMMERCE, Texas -

The Angelo State men's basketball team downed Texas A&M-Commerce 88-74 Thursday night for their second straight win.

The Rams (14-7, 6-7 LSC) had six different players score in double figures in the game, the most of any game this season, while the Lions (16-7, 8-6 LSC) had five of their own with ten points or more.

"Really proud of our guys tonight in a great road win," ASU head men's basketball coach Cinco Boone said. "Eighteen assists, six guys in double figures, out-rebounding Commerce and holding them to 36 percent from the field were huge keys that helped us pull it out. I can't say enough about how well the guys we had suited up and how hard they played to pull out a good win."

ASU had one of its best offensive games of the season, shooting 56 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc. The Rams also led the Lions in rebounds, bench points, points in the paint, assists, as well as blocks and steals.

The Rams' big men dominated as Brandon Williams led all scorers with 16 points for ASU, going 8-11 from the field and adding in five rebounds on the night. Thomas Tshikaya followed with 14 points and four rebounds of his own and Michael Thomas was third in scoring 13 and pulling down a team-high six boards.

Quay King and DeVonte' Pratt each got 12 against the Lions and Prince Foster finished with 10 points and a team-leading eight assists in the matchup. Shaquan Rhoades was just one point away from being the seventh Ram in double figures as he finished with nine points, six of which came from his 100 percent shooting at the free throw line.

Pratt started the game with a three-pointer, but the Lions quickly countered with one of their own. A 6-0 run at the 16:27 mark gave the Rams a lead that they would never lose. ASU pushed the lead to nine points after a jumper from Thomas at the 11:20 mark. TAMC cut the deficit to four with six minutes to play in the half, but the Rams went on another run and King hit a three-pointer with three seconds remaining for an 11-point lead at halftime.

Angelo State never let the lead get lower than four in the second half either. The Rams closed out the game with free throws, earning their third road win in the Lone Star Conference this season.

The Rams will stay on the road for a rivalry matchup at 4 p.m. Saturday  against Tarleton State in Stephenville. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app and can be heard on 1260 KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
