SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State baseball team fell to Tarleton State 9-3 in the series finale on Monday to split the series at two game apiece.
The Rams (24-6, 6-1Â LSC) fell behind early as the Texans (18-14, 2-6 LSC) scored four runs in the first inning and were never able to make up the deficit. Because it was rescheduled to Monday, the game did not count as a conference matchup.Â
Shane Browning got the start for the Rams on the mound but didn't make it through the first inning as the Texans got four runs on three hits and two errors to build an early lead.
ASU responded with a pair of runs in the second as Steven Pinales led off with a double and came around to score when the next batter, Jacob Boston, singled. Tyler Coolbaugh followed with a single of his own and Boston eventually came around to score on a ground ball from Nick Novak.
The Texans extended their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the third before Joe Hauser came in to relieve Kenton Schroter. Hauser would end up going two and a third innings on the day while giving up just three hits and one earned run.
Blake Barr came in to relieve Hauser to start the sixth inning and ended up closing out the final three innings of the game without giving up a run. Barr gave up just three hits in his three innings on the mound and struck out two.
ASU got its third run of the day in the top of the eighth inning when Jonathan Soberanes walked to lead off the inning and Elias Aguirre followed with a bunt single. Mitch Henshaw followed with an RBI single to score Sobreanes for the Rams final run of the day.
Angelo State will host Texas A&M-Kingsville for its next opponent April 7-9 with the series opener at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Rams will also host a concert following Saturday's doubleheader.
