SAN ANGELO – Angelo State's Nils Fischer and Kenneth Turner were named the Lone Star Conference Male Field and Track Athletes of the Year.
Fischer became the first Ram since Will Littlejohn in 2004 to win an individual national title. The freshman dominated the javelin from the very first throw. He took the lead on his very first throw of 238'-1" (72.57-meters). He improved on his third throw and continue leading into the finals. His last throw was his best. Fischer's mark measured 246'-2' (75.05-meters). The throw is an ASU school record, LSC record and personal best for the native of Germany. It is also the fourth best throw in NCAA Division II history. It is the fourth men's javelin title in school history and the first since Rogers Davis in 1996. He is the first Ram to win the award since its inception in 2008.
Turner became just the eighth All-American in the 100-meters in program history and the first since Kendral Terrance in 1999. The senior clocked a 10.36 to cross the line in fifth. It is his second All-American honor of the meet. He also anchored the 4x100-meter relay to the program's first All-American honors since 2010. It is the third-straight year Angelo State has been awarded the LSC Male Track Athlete of the Year.
